The sedan segment in India experienced a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 9.34% in December 2024, with total sales reaching 31,546 units compared to 28,850 units in December 2023. Despite the growing dominance of SUVs, sedans have managed to hold their ground with some notable performances across various models.

Maruti Dzire retained its top spot as the best-selling sedan in December 2024, with sales of 16,573 units. This marks an 18.28% YoY growth, as it added 2,561 units over the 14,012 units sold in December 2023. Its strong performance continues to solidify its position as the leader in the segment. Hyundai Aura followed with 3,852 units sold last month, a slight increase of 1.05% over 3,812 units in December 2023.

Honda Amaze claimed the third position with an impressive YoY growth of 53.60%, selling 3,708 units compared to 2,414 units a year ago, reflecting a volume gain of 1,294 units. Honda has decided to extend the introductory prices of Amaze for added benefit of their buyer. Volkswagen Virtus secured fourth place with 2,257 units sold in December 2024, up by 2.64% compared to 2,199 units sold in December 2023. Meanwhile, Skoda Slavia saw a minor decline of 3.37%, with 1,894 units sold, a decrease of 66 units from the same period last year. Tata Tigor, including its EV version, witnessed a sharp decline of 46.22%, selling only 1,054 units in December 2024 compared to 1,960 units in December 2023.

Hyundai Verna, however, posted a strong performance with 872 units sold, registering a 22.47% YoY growth over 712 units sold in December 2023. Honda City recorded a significant decline of 29.59%, with sales dropping to 783 units in December 2024 from 1,112 units a year ago. Maruti Ciaz also experienced a marginal decline of 5.11%, selling 464 units compared to 489 units in December 2023. Toyota Camry saw a steep decline of 51.11%, with only 88 units sold in December 2024, down from 180 units in the previous year. Skoda Superb managed to register a single unit sale in December 2024, marking its entry into the sales chart for the month.

Continuing from the YoY analysis, sedan sales in December 2024 grew by 27.42% MoM to 31,546 units, up from 24,757 units in November 2024.

Maruti Dzire led with a strong 40.70% increase, selling 16,573 units. Honda Amaze followed with 41.10% growth, reaching 3,708 units. Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia posted remarkable MoM growth of 54.91% and 67.46%, selling 2,257 and 1,894 units, respectively. Tata Tigor also saw a 22.70% rise to 1,054 units, while Honda City grew moderately by 10.44% to 783 units.

However, Hyundai Aura and Verna declined by 9.32% and 28.11%, respectively, selling 3,852 and 872 units. Maruti Ciaz dropped by 22.28% to 464 units, Toyota Camry by 32.31% to 88 units, and Skoda Superb by 83.33%, selling just 1 unit.
