The year 2024 concluded on a mixed note for Skoda and Volkswagen. Both brands reported declines in year-on-year (YoY) sales while achieving substantial month-on-month (MoM) growth. Combined sales for both automakers stood at 9,341 units in December 2024, marking a 2.7% YoY decline compared to 9,600 units sold in December 2023. However, MoM sales rose significantly by 57.81% over 3,422 units sold in November 2024. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the December 2024 sales performance for both brands.
Skoda Sales Breakup: YoY vs. MoM
Skoda’s total sales fell by 2.48% YoY to 4,554 units in December 2024, down from 4,670 units in December 2023. However, MoM sales rose sharply by 57.80%, compared to 2,886 units sold in November 2024.
– Skoda Kushaq retained its position as the bestseller in the brand’s lineup, recording 2,465 units sold in December 2024. While YoY sales saw a marginal 0.80% decline from 2,485 units in December 2023, MoM sales grew by an impressive 61.75% from 1,524 units sold in November 2024. The Kushaq also ranked No. 6 in the compact SUV category for the month, ahead of the VW Taigun.
– Skoda Slavia recorded 1,894 units sold in December 2024, reflecting a 3.37% YoY decline from 1,960 units in December 2023. However, MoM sales jumped by 67.46%, compared to 1,131 units sold in November 2024, making it a strong performer with a 41.59% portfolio share.
– Skoda Kodiaq sales declined by 13.78% YoY and MoM to 194 units in December 2024. This dip coincides with the anticipation surrounding the launch of the second-generation Kodiaq, which was recently showcased with new features like ADAS and both five- and seven-seater configurations.
– Skoda Superb sales fell drastically, with just 1 unit sold in December 2024, an 83.33% MoM decline from 6 units sold in November 2024. The recently showcased Superb Diesel 4×4 is expected to revive interest when it launches in the Indian market via the CBU route.
Volkswagen Sales Breakup: YoY vs. MoM
Volkswagen experienced a 2.90% YoY decline in December 2024 sales, with 4,787 units sold compared to 4,930 units in December 2023. However, MoM sales soared by 57.83%, up from 3,033 units in November 2024, representing a volume growth of 1,754 units.
– Volkswagen Taigun led the lineup with 2,335 units sold in December 2024, reflecting a 4.92% YoY decline from 2,456 units in December 2023. MoM sales saw a robust 55.98% increase from 1,497 units sold in November 2024. The Taigun now holds a 48.78% share in VW’s portfolio.
– Volkswagen Virtus registered 2,257 units sold in December 2024, achieving a 2.64% YoY increase from 2,200 units sold in December 2023. MoM sales grew by 54.91%, compared to 1,457 units in November 2024.
– Volkswagen Tiguan sales dropped by 29.09% YoY to 195 units in December 2024, down from 275 units sold in December 2023. Despite the YoY dip, MoM performance improved significantly, with a 146.84% rise from 79 units sold in November 2024.
