HYDERABAD: A routine Youth Congress meeting at Gandhi Bhavan took a chaotic turn when party leaders clashed over allocation of nominated posts, leading to physical altercations and a viral video circulating on social media here on Wednesday.
The tense situation arose when leaders from Kothagudem alleged that the state leadership was giving preference to those who had jumped over from BRS, while ignoring the track-record of committed long-standing members. The enraged members raised strong objections to the appointment process, which, they alleged, was leading to internal rifts.
What began as a heated discussion soon escalated into a violent altercation. Members from either faction hurled abuses at one another, which eventually became physical. One person sustained injuries during the scuffle.
Meanwhile, a video capturing the entire violent episode went viral on social media, almost immediately. The footage has since sparked widespread debate and criticism of the Youth Congress leadership for failing to maintain discipline and resolve internal disputes.
Police had to intervene to restore order and separate the warring factions and bring the situation under control.
