Tribal woman injured in leopard attack in Adilabad district


A middle-aged tribal woman was grievously injured in an attack by a leopard at Dedra village in Bazarhatnoor mandal of Adilabad district in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident triggered panic in the villages tucked away in forest fringe areas of the mandal. The injured woman, identified as Bheema Bai, 51, was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad town. Her condition is stated to be stable.

According to sources, a leopard attacked Bheema Bai near a farm when she had gone out to attend nature’s call in the early hours of the day. On hearing her screams, some farmers rushed to the spot and found her lying behind the bushes with multiple injuries. They immediately rushed her to RIMS in Adilabad.

Meanwhile, District Forest Officer, Adilabad, Prashanth Bajirao Patil visited the injured tribal woman at RIMS and inquired about her health on Saturday afternoon. He handed over ₹5,000 to Bheema Bai as interim relief, sources added.
