Visakhapatnam: City police chief Sankabrata Bagchi received five youths who reached Vizag from Sharjah on Wednesday. They were cheated by agents and wrote to the police commissioner to rescue them, who in turn arranged flight tickets for them to return home.
The youths — Poluparthi Lakshminarayana (21), Gara Rajesh (21), Pyla Ramaswamy (21), Kalla Venkata Rao (25), and Geddada Lokesh (24) from Anakapalli and Srikakulam districts — attended ‘interviews’ to work in a company in Sharjah. They were contacted by two agents in Oct 2024, identified as Durga Rao, alias Prasad, and Chandu. After completing medical tests, they were ‘selected’ to work for the company.
They reached Sharjah on Nov 12 last year, but found there was no such company. Left with no option, they called the Vizag police commissioner and described their ordeal. The police chief immediately took up the issue with immigration officials. He also asked the assistant commissioner of police and Gajuwaka police station inspector to arrange flight tickets for the job fraud victims.
