Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development (MCRHRD) Institute has launched a 16-week induction training programme for 122 examiners of patents and designs of the office of Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, on Thursday.

The training programme is expected to play a critical role in the country’s intellectual property (IP) landscape as boudhik sampada prabhari (guardians of intellectual wealth). According to a press release issued by the Institute, the objective of the programme is to impart training in the examination of applications for patents from techno-legal perspectives and also to expose them to the inputs in administration.

Director General of the Institute Shashank Goel said the examiners of patents and designs are at the forefront of the country’s patent and design examination process. By ensuring that the deserving patents and designs are granted, the examiners contribute directly to creating an environment of innovation and creativity and the work would have long-lasting effects on the IP ecosystem, he stated.

The work done by the examiners would not exist in isolation, but would be intrinsically linked to the global IP ecosystem. Clarity on the international framework would be critical not only to perform duties with precision by the examiners but also to ensure the country’s IP system is aligned with global standards and practices.

Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks Prof. Unnat P. Pandit highlighted the increasing trend in IP filing and disposals, which reflect the country’s growing prominence in the global IP landscape.
