Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy vowed to rid Nellore city of mosquito menace by extensively implementing the mosquito eradication programme ‘Domalapai Dandayatra’, an initiative coined by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

Accompanied by civic officials, health supervisors and workers, the MLA launched the programme by spraying kerosene and dropping oil balls into the open drains in the city’s 34th division on Thursday.

Pointing to the rampant growth of mosquitoes in the city due to the prevalence of open drains and unhygienic conditions, he explained to the officials the problems faced by the citizens and sought a solution on priority basis.

He called upon the civic staff to observe the programme in all the 26 divisions in his constituency everyday, with special drives in the areas that required the most attention.

“Fogging machines, kerosene and oil balls are made available in all the divisions. The civic staff will have to use them in tune with the requirements”, he said, while inviting the public to partner with the government by helping the latter identify the areas prone to the menace.

Similarly, he suggested the use of Gambusia fish, a fresh water fish which is also known as ‘mosquito fish’ in view of its usage to control mosquito larvae, wherever required.
