Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar and MLAs participated in Gram Sabhas in Karimnagar district on Wednesday.
Criticising the previous BRS government for issuing fewer than 40,000 ration cards during its 10-year rule, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy claimed that the welfare programmes initiated by the Congress government in Telangana were designed to reach every eligible individual, ensuring comprehensive coverage up to the saturation point.
He was participating in Praja Palana Gram Sabhas held in Manakondur, Choppadandi, Vemulawada and Dharmapuri constituencies. Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy was joined by Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and MLAs and MLCs.
Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced the issuance of new ration cards to all eligible individuals through a seamless, continuous process conducted in a transparent and accountable manner.
He said the previous BRS government issued fewer than 40,000 ration cards during its 10-year rule. In contrast, the Congress government had already initiated the process to benefit an additional 40 lakh people through new ration cards.
He said as promised all ration cardholders will receive 6 kg of fine rice per person free of cost as more than 50% of coarse rice was inedible and used to be diverted by cardholders for other purposes. The new policy, which will cost the government an additional ₹11,000 crore annually, reflects our commitment to people’s welfare,” he added.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar listed out the welfare schemes being implemented by the Congress government since it came to power in December 2023. These include free travel for women in RTC buses, free power up to 200 units, gas cylinders for ₹500, free power for farmers, crop loan waivers and many other schemes covering all sections of the society.
Narayanpur project
Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the Narayanpur reservoir in Karimnagar district would be completed within the next year. Along with the Ministers, he visited the Narayanpur reservoir on Wednesday.
He declared that the Narayanpur project would be completed on a war footing and treated as the highest-priority project. He stated that nearly ₹32 crore was required for land acquisition and another ₹10 crore for the completion of other works. Once completed, the project would create an additional ayacut of 70,000 acres. He also announced that the balance works of the Yellampalli Reservoir would be completed within one year.
