Nizamabad: Political opponents disrupted Praja Palana gram sabhas in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts, creating hurdles by raising slogans and arguing with officials. The sabhas, organised by the district administration, aimed to receive applications and identify beneficiaries for schemes such as Indiramma Housing, new ration cards, and Indiramma Athmiya Bharosa.
Special teams were constituted to conduct these meetings across all nine Assembly constituencies in the two districts. However, political adversaries of local MLAs strategically entered the sessions, causing disturbances and confronting officials on various issues.
M. Ramesh, a resident, expressed frustration over not receiving a ration card despite applying multiple times over 11 years. “We are hopeful that the new Congress government will resolve these issues, as district collectors and civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy assured us that issuing ration cards is a regular process,” he said.
In Banswada, adviser to the state government and MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy faced public criticism over local issues. Similarly, BJP MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy encountered protests from women in Khudawanpur village, Nandipet mandal. To prevent further disruptions, police forces were deployed at the sabhas.
Congress leader Chakradhar Goud alleged that BRS leaders were spreading false propaganda and misleading people during the sabhas. “Unable to tolerate the growing popularity of the Congress, BRS leaders have resorted to creating disturbances. We will respond appropriately,” he warned.
This is the first time MLAs in these districts have been directly targeted during such programmes.
