Vijayawada:The Perecherla Nagara Vanam in Guntur district has got a major facelift with the launch of several adventure activities like zip line, walking, trekking, rifle shooting, archery etc.
The forest department developed the zip line up to the hilltop, and arranged several facilities for adventure activities in recent times. They also arranged an All-Terrain Vehicle to enable the people to have a ride there.
Nagara Vanam literally translates to urban forest. Visitors can trek for about 100 meters in the woods and enjoy the nearly 40-years-old red sander plantations. Also in place is a children’s play area. Visitors can practise shooting arrows in the archery and do normal shooting with the rifles.
Foresters have arranged potable water supply by setting up an RO plant, as also washrooms and are ensuring safety and security to the visitors.
The Nagara Vanam is developed with the funds allotted under the central government’s Nagara Vanam Yojana. The facility is located 6km away from Guntur town, abutting the national highway. Public transport is available from Guntur town to reach the place.
Computerised issue of entry tickets to Nagara Vanam is currently on. A fee is charged for various adventure activities, namely `300 per head for zip line, `50 for archery/rifle shooting, and `100 for riding on the All-Terrain-Vehicle.
The charge per child is `10 and adult `20 for entry into the Nagara Vanam.
Guntur DFO Hima Sailaja said, “We are developing the Perecherla Nagara Vanam in a big way by providing a host of adventure activities and amenities for the visitors. Many are coming in to spend their holidays there and getting involved in physical activities in the lap of Mother Nature.”
