Launched last year in November, Skoda Kylaq is available with a 115 PS, 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine
Skoda Kylaq has received a good market response, as evident with over 10,000 bookings in ten days post launch. Deliveries are scheduled to commence from 27th January. Ahead of that, Skoda has revealed the mileage figures of Kylaq.
Skoda Kylaq fuel efficiency
Kylaq is equipped with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that is known for its powerful performance. This engine is also available as an option with the Kushaq and Slavia. It generates 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Skoda has now revealed the mileage figures – 19.68 km/l with the manual and 19.05 km/l with the torque converter automatic. As is evident, the fuel efficiency is slightly better with the manual transmission.
How fuel-efficient are other sub-4-meter SUVs?
Maruti Brezza is currently the top selling sub-4-meter SUV in the market. As compared to Kylaq, Brezza has a larger 1.5-litre petrol engine. It generates 100.6 PS and 136 Nm of torque, which is less than Kylaq. Fuel efficiency is rated at 19.68 km/l with the manual and 19.05 km/l with the automatic. Kylaq seems better here, as it has higher power and torque and still manages to deliver almost the same mileage.
Next bestseller is Tata Nexon, available with three engine options. The one comparable to Kylaq’s is the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that generates 120 PS and 170 Nm. Transmission choices include 5MT, 6MT, 6AMT and DCA. While Nexon’s official fuel efficiency numbers are not mentioned, it is estimated to deliver around 17 to 18 km/l. Here too, the Kylaq seems to have an upper hand in terms of mileage.
Talking about Hyundai Venue, there are three engine options to choose from. The one comparable to Kylaq’s is the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that makes 120 PS and 172 Nm. It has transmission options of 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT. Estimates indicate that Hyundai Venue 1.0-litre turbo petrol variant has mileage of around 18 km/l. That’s a close match to that of Skoda Kylaq. Kia Sonet has the same engine and mileage figures are likely to be similar.
Mahindra XUV 3XO has comparable engine options of a 1.2-litre turbo petrol TCMPFi and a 1.2-litre turbo petrol TGDi. The former delivers 112 PS and 200 Nm, whereas the TGDi unit produces 130 PS and 230 Nm. Transmission choices include 6MT and 6AT. Estimated mileage is around 18 to 20 km/l. It appears that XUV 3XO has an edge over Kylaq in terms of power output.
Skoda Kylaq – Features, Safety
Kylaq has an attractive profile, quite distinct from other sub-4-meter SUVs. It is also loaded with premium features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8-inch digital cluster. There’s ambient lighting, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, wireless charging and electric sunroof. Kylaq also excels in safety, as evident with 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests.
