ATM heist suspects travel 1,500 km on borrowed bike | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Two fugitives, the targets of a four-state police manhunt for their involvement in an ATM heist in Bidar and an attempted murder in Afzalgunj, covered 1,500 kilometres on a borrowed bike before reaching Hyderabad on Jan 16.
Investigators identified the suspects, natives of Hajipur district in Bihar, after piecing together their movements. Their journey began nearly a month before committing the crimes between Hajipur and Hyderabad, with the duo borrowing a bike from an acquaintance in their hometown. The breakthrough came when police traced the vehicle’s registration number.
After the attempted murder in Afzalgunj, multiple teams analysed CCTV camera footage to map the movements of suspects, uncovering their method of arrival and escape. During the reverse investigation, officials discovered that the fugitives had parked the bike at the MGBS bus station, and provided a fake mobile number for token. This led to the first major clue.
The bike owner, also from Hajipur, was initially unaware of the suspects’ intentions. He had lent the vehicle to a friend, who subsequently passed it on to the accused under the pretence it would be returned in a month. Neither the owner nor the intermediary knew the bike would be used in criminal activities.
According to investigators, the suspects are seasoned criminals involved in similar robberies and murders across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Their identities were confirmed after police spoke to family members, neighbours, and local authorities.
The investigation hit a brief snag when officers from Karnataka and Telangana mistakenly detained unrelated individuals in Bihar. However, the discovery of the bike used in the crimes ultimately confirmed the identities of the fugitives. However, the duo remains at large.
