Visakhapatnam: The north-east monsoon is likely to withdraw from Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. The IMD, Amaravati on Saturday said the conditions were becoming favourable for cessation of north-east monsoon rains over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, adjoining areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka from January 26.
The north-east monsoon had set in over Andhra Pradesh in October first week and was to end on December 31. However, conditions favoured the system to continue till Saturday.
During the period between October 1 and December 31, Andhra Pradesh received 316.2 mm rainfall against the normal fall of 287.2 mm registering an excess of 10 per cent.
Sri Sathya Sai district received the highest rainfall of 360 mm against the normal fall of 127.3 mm rainfall registering a record 108 per cent excess rainfall.
East Godavari received 80 per cent deficit rainfall during the season. The district received 31.4 mm rainfall against the normal fall of 63.1 mm.
Prolonged spells of rainfall brought down the temperature in the state. The temperature dropped to single digits in Agency districts of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam while plain areas are registering 14 degrees to 22 degrees Celsius.
There will be no weather activity for the next two days, a private website said.
IMD also forecast that the dry spell would continue for some time. The report said lower tropospheric north-westerly winds and north-easterly winds would prevail over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and north-easterly winds /easterly winds prevail over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
