Contempt case filed against 2 IAS officers

Hyderabad: A contempt case has been filed against IAS officers Arvind Kumar and Amoy Kumar over their failure to protect the Banda Cheruvu waterbody in East Anand Bagh near Malkajgiri, which has been causing flooding in nearby residential areas every rainy season. The flooding has been exacerbated by encroachments in both the tank area and its nala, prompting several residents to take legal action.
Earlier, these officials had assured the court that they would expand the nala to accommodate more floodwater, which would help prevent the inundation. However, when no action was taken, Oruganti Ramesh, a resident of Anantha Saraswathi Nagar in East Anand Bagh, filed the contempt case. Justice K Lakshman had previously warned the officials that he would summon both of them if they failed to comply with the court’s order. The judge also directed the petitioner to include the current district collector of Medchal Malkajgiri as a party to the case.
Petitioner’s counsel, Radhika Palla, said the officials had promised 20 crore for the expansion of the nala, but no progress had been made. She pointed out that residents suffer severe flooding during the rains, leading to significant losses. The judge has scheduled the next hearing for Jan 31.
