Dalit man found dead on riverbank in Telangana’s Suryapet, father alleges ‘honour killing’ by wife’s family | Hyderabad News

A 32-year-old man from a Scheduled Caste (SC) was found dead on the banks of river Musi’s canal near Pillalamarri in Telangana’s Suryapet district Monday morning, following which the father of the deceased alleged “honour killing” by his wife’s family.

The deceased, identified as Vadlakonda Krishna alias Bunty from Mamillagadda in Suryapet town, was allegedly murdered on Sunday night, according to the local police.

Sunpreet Singh, Superintendent of Police, told indianexpress.com: “It seems like this (honour killing) but we are inquiring into it. There were a few cases against him. We are also looking into that (rivalry angle). At this moment, I can’t say more.”

According to sources, Krishna married Kotla Bhargavi from the Goud caste, which is one among the Backward Classes (BC) in Telangana, six months ago despite opposition from her family. This opposition from the in-laws could be the reason for the murder, according to the father of the deceased. Meanwhile, Bhargavi told the police that Krishna received a phone call Sunday evening from a friend named Mahesh and left home leaving the phone behind.

Krishna’s body was found lying beside a two-wheeler without a number plate. His face was allegedly smashed with boulders, and that appeared to be the cause of the death. Inspector Balu Naik confirmed the identity of the deceased but said it was too early to point at the cause of the murder. He also said Krishna was accused in a case registered in Suryapet town.

Festive offer

“Krishna’s father David has accused his son’s wife’s relatives of the murder. We are investigating the matter,” he told indianexpress.com.

The Suryapet Rural police filed an FIR and started gathering technical and scientific evidence while the body was moved to the Government General Hospital in Suryapet for postmortem examination.
