Drunk teacher suspended for thrashing students at Kurnool school

A teacher of Muddatamagi Model Primary School in Holagunda mandal of Kurnool district was suspended on Monday for allegedly thrashing students, under the influence of alcohol.

Video clips of the teacher beating the students went viral on social media platforms after which HRD Minister Nara Lokesh asked the Education Department officials to take stringent action against the teacher.

According to information, the teacher, V. Jayaraju, used to come to the school in a drunken condition and litter the school premises with empty bottles. On Monday, some students found empty liquor bottles in the school toilet and took up the issue with their parents and other teachers. The news went viral on social media.

“It is shocking that a school teacher thrashed the students. I instructed the officials to take action against him. A teacher should be a role model for others. Such actions will bring down the reputation of teachers,’‘ Mr. Lokesh said.

In the evening, District Education Officer (DEO) S. Samuel Paul issued the suspension orders for the teacher, based on a report submitted by Mandal Education Officer Jagannatham. “The MEO, in the report, said the students have noticed empty liquor bottles in the school toilet. Infuriated over this, the teacher thrashed the students,’‘ Mr. Samuel Paul said.

“The teacher was found to be coming to the school in a drunken state daily and he has been placed under suspension. We have asked the Mandal Education Officer of Holagunda to register a criminal case against the teacher,” the DEO said.
