Hyd to host world-class centre of excellence on energy transition

Hyderabad: The Centre has announced the creation of a world-class Centre of Excellence on Energy Transition (CoEET) in Hyderabad, aimed at combating climate change and enhancing energy efficiency to foster economic growth and improve human well-being. This initiative is part of India’s efforts to accelerate its clean energy transition and achieve its ambitious net zero emissions target by 2070.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the ministry of power, has joined forces with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to drive this initiative. An MoU between BEE and TERI was signed in Hyderabad in the presence of Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy, and deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka. The MoU was signed by Milind Deora, secretary of BEE, and Girish Seth, director of TERI.
The collaboration aims to enhance India’s capacity to address energy transition challenges, with financial backing from BEE to CoEET. The Centre will focus on developing innovative emission reduction strategies for various sectors including industries, MSMEs, buildings, transport, power, and mining. It will also advance energy-efficient technologies, such as motors, HVAC systems, advanced boilers, smart manufacturing, and waste heat recovery systems.
TERI’s Institute of Energy Transition will oversee the Centre’s operations, guided by a governance board that includes representatives from TERI, BEE, and the ministry of power. The signing authorities held an online discussion on Monday with A Chandrasekhara Reddy, media advisor for southern states, and V Aneela, vice-chairman and managing director of TGREDCO, to discuss communication strategies and future plans for the Centre.
