Hyderabad police are on the lookout for an engineering student who went missing after a boat caught fire in Hussain Sagar Lake on Sunday night. The fire occurred during a fireworks display at the ‘Bharat Mata Maha Aarti’ program, held to mark Republic Day. The incident took place shortly after Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and Governor Jishnu Dev Varma left the event.
The student, identified as Ajay, was aboard the boat with his friends when the fire broke out. While his friends managed to escape unharmed, Ajay has not been located. His family filed a missing person’s report after he failed to return home. According to police, the fire started when a firework rocket struck the crackers stored on the boat. One individual sustained burn injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The event, organized by the Bharat Mata Foundation, involved fireworks launched from the boat in the lake. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire, as efforts to locate Ajay continue.
