Telangana man throws unusual celebration after winning rooster in auction

Hyderabad: A bidder who won an auction for a fighting rooster held a celebration of sorts, in Vikarabad on Sunday.

Ramakrishna of Gaganpahad, who bought the rooster for Rs 2,300, is vice-president of the Telangana Bar and Restaurant Owners Association.

The Moinabad special operation team police had seized the rooster during a cockfight on January 12, at Pochayya Thota in Aziznagar. The police during a raid on the venue arrested eight persons and seized Rs s10,000 in cash, 12 small knives meant to be tied to the legs of fighting cocks, among others. They were handed over to the Moinabad police.

The police granted station bail to the accused but did not know what to do with the rooster. They produced the bird before a judge in the Upperpally court at Rajendranagar as per legal advice.

The court ordered that the rooster be auctioned. Bidding started at Rs 300 and was finally won by Ramakrishna.

When the judge asked Ramakrishna what he would do with the rooster, he said that he would raise it on his relative’s farm. Ramakrishna said that he had bought the rooster out of fear that it would be slaughtered if someone else bought it.

To celebrate his success, Ramakrishna organised a press conference and felicitated the chicken, Moinabad police said.
