Jagran Correspondent, Dehradun. The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has come into force in Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Code’s Rules and Portal UCC.UK.Gov.in in the Chief Servant Sadan at the Chief Minister’s residence.
Along with implementing the Uniform Civil Code, Uttarakhand became the first state to do so after independence. The Government of Uttarakhand has enacted the Uniform Civil Code Act with the aim of giving equal rights to all citizens. On 7 February 2024, the Assembly passed a bill related to it. On March 12, it received approval from the President. Then on March 14, the government decided to make its rules first by implementing the Uniform Civil Code. The manual was prepared after the exercise that lasted for almost a year. After this, special training was given to personnel to take it off on the ground. According to the Code’s proceeds, an online portal has also been made to register various subjects.
Scope
Except for Scheduled Tribes, the entire Uttarakhand state, as well as the residents of Uttarakhand living outside the state, applicable.
Authority
There will be SDM Registrar and Gram Panchayat Development Officer Sub Registrar in rural areas to implement UCC. Whereas the Nagar Panchayat-Nagar municipalities will have the concerned SDM Registrar and Executive Officer Sub Registrar.
Duties of Registrar General
If the registrar is unable to take action within the stipulated time, then the matter will go to the Registrar General from Auto Forward. Similarly, an appeal can be made to the Registrar General against the order of the Registrar or Sub Registrar, who will dispose of the appeal within 60 days and issue the order.

Rights of applicants
- If the Sub Registrar- Registrar does not take timely action, then online complaint can be filed.
- Appeal can be made to the Registrar within 30 days against the rejection order of the sub registrar.
- Appeal can be made to the Registrar General within 30 days against the registrar’s rejection order.
- Appeals will be able to be filed through online portal or app.
What is the rule on live in relationship
The live in relationship already established before the Code is implemented, registration will have to be done within a month from the date of implementation of Code. Whereas after the Code is implemented, the registration of the live in relationship established will have to be registered within one month from the date of admission in the livein relationship.
Live in terms
- One or both companions can end live in online or offline. If the same partner applies, the registrar will accept it only on the basis of another confirmation.
- If the woman becomes pregnant with live in, then the registrar will have to give information compulsorily. It has to be updated within 30 days of the child’s birth.
Marriage disconnection
While applying for divorce or marriage emptiness, the details of marriage registration, divorce or marriage vacancy are court case number, date of final order, details of children copy of the final order of the court.
Will
The will will be done in three ways. Through filling the form on the portal, uploading handwritten or typed fatty or uploading a will in a three -minute video.
