One of the injured in Hyderabad boat mishap at Hussain Sagar succumbed to injuries on Tuesday. The incident occurred during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, when a massive fire broke out on two boats following the ‘Bharat Mata Maha Aarti’ event organised by Bharata Mata Foundation at People’s Plaza on Necklace Road.
The fire, reportedly triggered by firecrackers, quickly engulfed both boats, leaving them gutted. At the time, 15 people were on board, all of whom managed to escape. However, three individuals sustained injuries and one of them has now passed away.
The 25-year-old deceased was identified as Ganapathi from West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. He suffered over 80 per cent burns after the incident, as per a report on Telangana Today.
Immediately after the incident, he was taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Secunderabad. However, he died due to the injuries.
On the other hand, efforts are underway to find a missing youth. A student named Ajay, who attended the event with friends, has been reported missing. While his friends managed to escape safely, Ajay could not be traced, as per a report on The Hindustan Times. The concerned family members approached the police prompting a joint search operation by civic authorities and police teams in the lake.
The event was attended by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, BJP MPs Eatala Rajender, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, M Raghunandan Rao, and acclaimed music director MM Keeravani of ‘RRR’ fame. However, the mishap occurred shortly after the Union Minister and Governor had left the venue.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and the safety measures in place during the event. However, the mishap has raised concerns about event management and the use of firecrackers in public spaces, particularly near water bodies.
