BIS Hyderabad Launches State-of-the-Art Textile Lab

HYDERABAD: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad, on Tuesday got a laboratory dedicated to the testing of specialised textile products.

The facility was launched by BIS Director-General Pramod Kumar who, speaking on the occasion, stressed the laboratory’s vital role in strengthening the quality ecosystem in the textile sector through state-of-the-art testing facilities. “The establishment of this specialised textiles testing laboratory in Hyderabad is a major step in strengthening the nation’s quality infrastructure.”

“This facility will play a critical role in enforcing Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Government of India, ensuring textile products meet the highest national standards. Soon, testing facilities for yarn will also be operational in this laboratory, further expanding its capabilities,” Kumar said.

He also highlighted the presence of a gold testing laboratory in the same building, where samples are tested for purity. This facility is instrumental in ensuring the authenticity and standardisation of gold products in the market.

In addition to inaugurating the laboratory, Tiwari launched the universal testing mMachine (UTM) for textile testing, a versatile tool for assessing the quality and durability of various textile products.

Officials present at the ceremony expressed the importance of opting for ISI-marked products, which guarantee adherence to BIS standards and ensure safety, reliability, and durability.

Present at the event were deputy directors-general Nishat Sultana Haque (laboratories) and Dr Meenakshi Ganesan (south) who heads the Southern Regional Laboratory and the Hyderabad laboratory and Srikanth, head of the Hyderabad branch office.
