To obtain public consent for construction of the Telangana Super Thermal Power Project (TSTPP) Phase-II (3X800 MW coal-based) at NTPC Ramagundam, an environmental public hearing was organised under the aegis of the Telangana State Pollution Control Board in Ramagundam town of Peddapalli district on Tuesday (January 28).

Many stakeholders, including people from nearby villages and local public representatives, raised social, economical and environmental concerns during the public hearing that lasted for nearly five hours.
Development of the surrounding villages/residential areas, catering to education, skill development, employment and healthcare needs of the local community was one of the major issues raised by the stakeholders during the marathon session held amid elaborate security arrangements.
The officials gave the details of the three upcoming units and addressed the concerns of the stakeholders. They proposed various activities to be undertaken by NTPC (Ramagundam & Telangana) as part of Corporate Social Responsibility-Community Development) initiative for the development of nearby communities.
They told the participants that NTPC Telangana is already generating (1,600 MW) of power through its two existing units, each with a capacity of 800 MW. Under the phase-II of the TSTPP, three additional power generation units, each with a capacity of 800 MW will be constructed, increasing the total power generation capacity of NTPC Telangana to 4,000 MW, sources said.
After the successful completion of phase-II, this power plant along with NTPC Ramagundam will become the largest power plant in the country in terms of production capacity.
An overwhelming number of participants welcomed the phase-II of TSTPP, sources added.
Ramagundam MLA Makkan Singh Raj Thakur, NTPC Ramagundam & Telangana Project Head Chandan Kumar Samanta, Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) State Advisory Committee member Shashibushan Kache, environmental specialists, social workers and representatives of various NGOs, among others were present.
