Visakhapatnam: Union ministry of steel secretary Sandeep Poundrik arrived in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday evening on a two-day official visit.
He headed straight to the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). The steel secretary held discussions with top officials of the VSP, including in-charge RINL chairman and managing director Ajit Kumar Saxena.
Significantly, Sandeep Poundrik has arrived ahead of the arrival of Union minister of state for steel and heavy industries B. Srinivas Varma on Thursday.
Importantly, Union minister of steel H.D. Kumaraswamy is expected to arrive at the steel plant on Friday.
The presence of heavyweights has kindled interest that major decisions could be taken with regard to the future of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
RINL officials are expected to make a PowerPoint presentation to the steel secretary on Wednesday on infrastructure, human resources and manufacturing.
Sources said Sandeep Poundrik would not be meeting trade union leaders or representatives of the Steel Executive Association. However, it is not known whether the union ministers will meet the VSP associations.
