A Sub-Inspector with Lingampet police of Kamareddy Kandi Sudhakar was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹12,500. According to an ACB media release, the bribe was allegedly demanded to ensure that the complainant was not implicated as an accused in a case registered in the Lingampet police station.
The accused officer was travelling towards Nizamabad when he was arrested, and the tainted amount was recovered from him. He was produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. The case remains under investigation.
In another case, Rathod Ramesh, 50, working as an Assistant Veterinary Surgeon in Utnoor mandal of Adilabad, was arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a complainant. The bribe was allegedly demanded in exchange for issuing non-payment certificates for the months of October and November 2023. These certificates were related to the salary of the complainant’s father, who was employed as a Veterinary Assistant at the same hospital. Investigation revealed that the accused officer had previously accepted ₹3,000 from the same complainant for issuing a Last Pay Certificate (LPC) concerning his father’s transfer.
The tainted amount was recovered from Ramesh and he was produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases in Karimnagar. The ACB requested citizens to report any instances of bribery involving government officials by contacting their toll-free number, 1064. They assured that complainants’ identities would be kept confidential as per legal provisions.
