Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said that Rs 1.82 lakh crore investments achieved at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos and Singapore were due to govt’s industry friendly and progressive policies, including the recently released Clean and Green Energy plan.
“It is a first step towards developing Telangana into a $1 trillion economy. We effectively showcased Telangana as the most suitable ‘China plus one’ destination, which industry majors and countries are looking for after Covid-19,” he said.
The CM said all this was possible because the present Congress govt continued with the good policies of earlier Congress and TDP administrations (in united Andhra Pradesh).
“We will continue the policies of even previous BRS govt, if they are good. The continuation of policies despite change of govt and industry friendly approach of the incumbent govt is what renewed the confidence of investors in Telangana,” the CM said, adding that the liberalisation policy of then Congress govt at the Centre under PM PV Narasimha Rao laid the foundation for investments in India.
Responding to BRS’ criticism and doubts over investment deals, he termed it as an “attention-seeking syndrome” and heartburn over the govt not failing as per their (BRS) wishful thinking.
The CM said: “We went there to attract investments irrespective of whether industry majors were based out of Hyderabad, Telangana, India or other developed countries. If any information is kept confidential, a white paper should be demanded. We have given details of all MoUs companywise. Even now, we are willing to share with the media the list of companies and MoUs if a fact-finding committee is constituted. You can cross-check with each company.”
“The huge investment deals signed by us at WEF and Singapore are a crucial victory of the Congress govt in its 14-month administration. We did not go after the companies, but industry majors such as Amazon, Sun Petrochemicals, Unilever, UBS and others expressed their willingness to invest in the state,” he said.
Revanth said that even though CMs and ministerial delegations from several states tried to attract investments, investors showed full confidence in Telangana govt and its policies. CEOs of top companies, be it from the state, country or MNCs took appointments, came to the Telangana pavilion in WEF and signed MoUs, he said.
IT and industry minister D Sridhar Babu said the incoming investments will generate over 50,000 direct jobs in Telangana.
On opposition criticism, Sridhar Babu asked: “Should we have said no to companies from the state and country for coming to invest in Telangana at WEF and asked them to come to Ameerpet to sign the deal?”
