After Fronx, 5-Door Jimny lifestyle off-roader becomes the 2nd SUV to be shipped from India to Japan. This move is quite important for the brand to demonstrate that Maruti Suzuki’s facilities in India can produce world-class products, one that will be launched in Suzuki’s home market. Also, expanding Maruti Suzuki’s export potential.
5-Door Maruti Jimny Unveiled In Japan
Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest car brand pushing volumes on a scale that immediate rivals can’t match combined. However, these volumes used to be associated with low-cost products that didn’t match the highest quality standards that many of the global markets like Japan and Europe have been following.
However, Maruti Suzuki has come a long way in demonstrating that their facilities in India can produce truly world-class products. Made-In-India Jimny 5-Door is now unveiled for JDM (Japanese Domestic Market), making it the 2nd SUV supplied from India to Japan after Fronx and 3rd vehicle overall with Baleno being the 1st.
5-Door Jimny was first showcased at Auto Expo 2023 and is the 2nd highest exported vehicle from Maruti Suzuki’s export portfolio. This 5-Door Jimny will be launched in Japan under Suzuki brand and it will be called Jimny Nomade (name derived from Nomad). Jimny has legend status as it is a global off-roader and is sold in more than 100 countries in the world.
Jimny Nomade’s launch in Japan marks an important milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing and export journey. It has to be noted that Jimny 5-Door is exclusively manufactured by Maruti Suzuki at their Gurugram facility.
Soon, Maruti Suzuki will start production of eVitara and it will also be launched in many global markets including Japan and Europe. Just like Jimny 5-Door, Suzuki will avoid is a global vehicle and will be exclusively manufactured by Maruti Suzuki at their Gujarat facility. eVitara is the company’s first-ever EV and it made its global debut at 2025 Auto Expo in Delhi NCR.

It is our second model to be exported to Japan in this fiscal year (FY 2024-25) after Fronx in August 2024.
