Vijayawada: The outgoing AP director general of police (DGP), Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, on Thursday described his tenure as AP police chief as satisfactory as the law and order situation in the state has been maintained very well and there is an increased level of satisfaction among citizens in the matter of public safety.
In his farewell address, the DGP said that crime incidents in the state have significantly come down, with cyber crime being the only exception. He said that committed work during floods in Aug-Sept 2024, and successful handling of VVIP visits in the past seven months are testaments to the strategic policing initiatives and community engagement efforts.
“The AP police have embraced modernisation, making the force more efficient, transparent, and proactive in addressing law and order challenges and crime prevention and detection. From integrating AI-driven policing strategies to expanding surveillance networks and forensic capabilities, policing has been redefined,” he added
Rao said he was part of the team who had questioned Ajmal Kasab in connection with 26/11 terror attack. He added, focus on crime prevention and safety has led to a 5.7% decline in total crime. Emphasis on women and children’s safety led to a 9.5% drop in crimes against them.
