Hyderabad: The Telangana govt, which is focussing on green energy, has decided to take up projects in other states. As its first initiative, the state govt intends to take up hydroelectric projects in Himachal Pradesh on a Build Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) model.
On Thursday, deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who is also the energy minister, along with energy department principal secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania held discussions with Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Delhi.
This follows HP’s invitation for proposals to implement 22 hydroelectric projects. A team of senior officials from the Telangana energy department had earlier visited HP and held discussions with the state’s power department as well as inspected SELI HEP (400 MW) and MIYAR HEP (120 MW) project sites.
Following the assessment, they recommended looking at projects with a potential of more than 100 MW capacity.
During Thursday’s meeting, the deputy CM formally submitted a letter expressing Telangana’s interest in the SELI HEP (400 MW) and MIYAR HEP (120 MW) projects. Vikramarka requested the HP govt to send a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) for further examination.
Officials said the hydel power generated from these projects will be utilised for Telangana, strengthening its electricity supply for present and future demands.
“This hydel power generation is a significant step forward in Telangana’s ongoing efforts to enhance generation capacity and meet the state’s growing energy needs,” the deputy CM said.
Officials said if the HP plan fulfils the objectives, then the state may look at other states also for similar projects.
