Air India Express launches direct flights from Hyderabad to Phuket

Hyderabad: Hyderabad now has direct air connectivity to Phuket with Air India Express launching non-stop flights between the two cities. The new route, introduced by GMR Hyderabad International Airport, aims to meet the growing demand for travel to Thailand’s popular beach destination.

The first flight took off on January 31 with services operating three times a week—on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. From February 15, the frequency will increase to six flights per week.

Growing demand for Phuket

Phuket has long been a favoured international destination for Indian travellers. It is known for its beaches, nightlife and cultural attractions. The new flights provide a direct and convenient option for Hyderabad’s travellers, cutting down the hassle of layovers.

“The introduction of these new flights will significantly enhance connectivity between Phuket and Hyderabad,” said Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. “Phuket has been one of the most sought-after destinations for travellers and we are glad that we can make this happen.”

The flight is approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes, making it one of the shortest international routes from Hyderabad.

Expanding international connectivity

For Air India Express, this new route is part of a broader plan to expand its international network from Hyderabad. The airline already connects the city to three key Saudi Arabian destinations—Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh.

“We are delighted to be the first airline to introduce direct flights between Hyderabad and Phuket,” said Aloke Singh, managing director of Air India Express. “Hyderabad is not just a key aviation hub for us but also a city rich in culture and heritage. One of our brand-new aircraft even features a Kalamkari-inspired livery, celebrating the artistic traditions of Telugu-speaking people.”

With over 210 weekly flights connecting Hyderabad to 20 domestic and four international destinations, Air India Express sees this new addition as a step toward strengthening its presence in the city.

How will the new Phuket flights benefit travellers

The new flights are expected to benefit both tourists and businesses, as direct connectivity reduces travel time and costs. Tour operators expect an increase in bookings, with Phuket’s appeal as a honeymoon and holiday destination continuing to grow.

Hyderabad, on the other hand, is also expected to see more Thai tourists, given its historical significance, business opportunities and growing reputation as a food and shopping hub.

With the travel industry recovering post-pandemic, airlines and airports are looking to add more direct routes to high-demand destinations. The Hyderabad-Phuket connection is expected to be just one of many expansions in international connectivity for the city.
