Andhra Pradesh government extends suspension of senior IPS officer

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh govt extended the suspension of senior IPS officer N Sanjay until May 31, 2025, or until further orders, following a review by the suspension committee. The decision was formalised in a Government Order (GO) issued by the general administration department on Friday.
Sanjay, a 1996 batch IPS officer, was placed under suspension following allegations of serious misconduct during his tenure as additional director general (ADG) of the crime investigation department (CID) and as director general (DG) of AP state disaster response and fire services. The suspension was issued under Rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, citing multiple violations of conduct and financial irregularities on Dec 3, 2024. The Union home ministry later confirmed the suspension. Subsequently, a review committee was constituted to examine the case, as per Rule 3(8)(c) of the same regulations.
The committee met on Wednesday and recommended an extension of Sanjay’s suspension, leading to the latest govt order. Additionally, articles of charge were issued against him under Rule 8 of the AIS (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969, indicating that disciplinary proceedings are ongoing.
The govt directed the director general of police (HoPF), Andhra Pradesh, to take necessary follow-up actions regarding the suspension order. The reasons behind Sanjay’s suspension and the charges against him have not been disclosed in the official order. However, the extension signals that the govt is continuing its inquiry into alleged violations of service conduct rules by the senior police officer.
