Vijayawada: Elections for the vacant posts of deputy mayors, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons in various municipalities and corporations across the state are scheduled to take place on Feb 3.
The state election commission (SEC) released the election schedule here on Monday. State election commissioner Neelam Sawhney directed the district election authorities and district collectors to issue notification on Jan 30 and conduct the elections by convening the general body on Feb 3.
Elections for deputy mayors of Tirupati, Nellore and Eluru corporations, and chairpersons in Nandigama, Hindupuram and Palakonda municipalities will be held as per schedule released by the SEC.
Tirupati deputy mayor Bhumana Abhinay Reddy of YSRCP quit to his post in the civic body after facing defeat in the assembly elections. Abhinay Reddy is son of former TTD chairman and former legislator Karunakar Reddy.
Similarly, Nellore deputy mayor Roop Kumar Yadav quit from the post ahead of the general elections following his differences with then legislator Anil Kumar Yadav of YSRCP. Roop Kumar subsequently joined TDP and became a close aide of municipal administration minister Dr P Narayana.
The posts fell vacant following the resignation of incumbent deputy mayors, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons. Similarly, elections for vice-chairpersons in Buchireddypalem, Nuzvid, Tuni and Piduguralla municipalities will also be held on Feb 3.
