Local body elections only after increase in reservations: Goud

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Thursday said that local body elections will be held only after increasing reservations. He also said the Congress will emerge victorious in the forthcoming GHMC elections.
Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud said that unlike the BRS, Congress is not making baseless claims but acknowledges that some initiatives have successfully reached the grassroots due to an effective administrative framework. He, however, said some of the welfare schemes have not reached the beneficiaries due to lapses on the part of the officials.
Goud said the selection process for the graduate and teacher MLC candidates will involve consultation with MLAs and revealed that a candidates’ shortlist has already been forwarded to the AICC, with the final decision resting with the party leadership. A meeting to finalise candidate selection is scheduled for Feb 3.
The TPCC chief alleged that the BRS and BJP have conspired against Congress out of fear of losing in the caste survey, which he claimed was completed successfully. He further said that a cabinet sub-committee meeting to review the caste survey report is scheduled for Feb 5.
Goud dismissed criticisms regarding chief minister A Revanth Reddy’s reviews being conducted from his residence or command control room. He challenged the BRS to explain the rationale behind the demolition and reconstruction of the secretariat.
He said the people are against governance from farmhouses, criticising the manipulated surveys. On Thursday, several social media posts emerged after Congress’ official handles initiated a survey on ‘farmhouse administration versus Congress administration,’ with many respondents appearing to favour governance from farmhouses.
The TPCC president said that Rahul Gandhi will visit Telangana next month, and the party will convene a meeting in Suryapet during the second week of Feb. Regarding the Patancheru Congress dispute, he said the committee report is still pending but expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved amicably.
