TCS to begin operations in Visakhapatnam in 90 days, says minister Nara Lokesh | Hyderabad News

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will soon set up a facility in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Nara Lokesh, state IT and Electronics Minister, told The Indian Express on Wednesday. The process to identify land for the tech company to set up a permanent facility is on, Lokesh added.

“It will be a 10,000-people campus. It may take two to three years to construct a permanent building. To start with, they (TCS) are renting out a building. The company is expected to begin operations in 90 days,” Lokesh said.

Lokesh said this was the beginning of turning the port city into an IT and technology hub.

Innovations like AI and big data are being introduced in the IT sector and necessary cooperation will be extended to start-ups through the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub, Lokesh said. The state government is looking to create at least 5 lakh jobs in the IT sector in five years and is expecting other tech companies seeking to expand to set up their facilities at Visakhapatnam, he added.

Meanwhile, after visiting the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said Visakhapatnam will witness an IT revolution once TCS establishes its unit there.

Festive offer

At Davos, Naidu had asked Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive Officer, Google Cloud, to examine the possibilities of establishing a design centre in Visakhapatnam for developing chips used in servers. Naidu also asked Kurian to set up a manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh to integrate its server supply chain to make the state the headquarters for server maintenance services.

Google Cloud, the third-largest cloud provider globally, has already established two cloud regions in Delhi and Mumbai. It recently signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government to set up a Data City in Visakhapatnam and artificial intelligence (AI) applications while fostering skill development opportunities for local youth.
