5 of family held for woman’s murder in Mahabubabad

Hyderabad: A man who allegedly killed his wife and buried her body in an open space in front of their house was arrested by Mahabubabad police.
Apart from the accused, Kati Gopi, 29, of Signal Colony, his parents, Kati Ramulu, 66, Kati Laxmi, 56, his sister Hechu Durga, 28, and brother-in-law Hechu Mahendar, 31, were also arrested on Jan 31 for their alleged involvement.
Another person, Bathula Venkateshwara of Eluru district in AP, wanted in the case, is absconding.
People in the neighbourhood grew suspicious after the victim, Nagamani, was not seen with the family. They alerted the police, who began an investigation. A stench was also emanating from the site where the body was buried.
Kati Gopi, a construction worker, had gone to Eluru for work, where he met the woman initially. She had two children, and her husband had died. He married her and brought her to his house in Mahabubabad. The family, however, did not like her, cops said. The couple lived in a rented house. Gopi allegedly started to torture her, and the woman went back to Eluru. Gopi once again went and brought her back.
According to police, on Jan 7, Gopi banged her head against a stone and killed her. His relative Bathula Venkateshwarlu dug a grave in the open space in front of the rented house and buried her.
