NRI among four killed in car crash in Mahabubnagar

Hyderabad: Four persons, including three of a family, were killed and four others were injured when their car crashed into a stationary truck near Bhoothpur in Mahabubnagar district on Thursday morning.
The victims, all belonging to Balapur in the city, were returning home after visiting Tirupati when their vehicle rammed into a DCM van parked on Hyderabad-Kurnool highway, police said.

Kempu Rao, 65, a retired head constable of the Hyderabad police, his son Venkataramana Rao, 43, a UK-based professional, Rao’s brother-in-law Avula Ashok, 48, and Venkataramana Rao’s childhood friend Gone Venkataramana, 43, died in the accident. Kempu Rao’s wife Suvarna, his daughter Ambica and her son, 17, who received severe injuries in the crash, were battling for life. Ambica’s daughter, 15, received minor injuries and was out of danger.
Police said Venkataramana Rao had come home a few days ago for a month-long vacation. As was the family tradition, both families, along with Venkataramana Rao’s friend went to Tirupati two days ago. They started their return journey on Wednesday night.
Around 7am, when they were on the outskirts of Thatikonda village, around seven km from Bhoothpur town, Ashok, who was behind the wheel, lost control and their Suzuki XL6 rammed into the parked van from the rear. A case was registered and a hunt was on to nab the truck driver, who went absconding, Bhoothpur circle inspector Ramakrishna Shivaratri said.
