Hyderabad: Agriculture university chief scientist Dr Rajaiah said the country should increase use of machines from 45 per cent to 75 per cent. Increasing the capacity of machines was key to increasing agriculture output, said Dr Rajaiah, incharge of mechanization at the the Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University.
Speaking at a workship, Dr Rajaiah said: “Mechanisation helps in increasing agricultural output. This aids farmers in protecting crops, and reduces human labour and helps in reducing agricultural expenditure.”
He said the usage of machines increased productivity by 10 to 20 per cent and saved 22 to 30 per cent time. Drone technology, sensor based farm equipment, automated tractors, and digital agriculture will help bring in revolutionary changes in agriculture, he said.
Rice research institute chief scientist Dr Damodar Raju said the machines improve productivity. Dr Sujatha, chief scientist of the maize research centre explained the importance of machinery in the crop along with castor seeds. Dr Laxman, coordinator of Eruvaka Tandur centre, said FPOs can be established in custom hiring centres.
