Hyderabad: A two-member gang that duped bike sellers on OLX and fled with their vehicles was arrested by Cyberabad police in Bachupally on Monday.
The accused, O Ramesh Babu and C Gundappa, both delivery workers, posed as interested buyers, met sellers who posted ads on the platform, and escaped with the bikes under the pretext of a test ride. Police recovered six stolen bikes worth Rs 4 lakh from them.
Using CCTV camera footage and other technical leads, police identified and caught the duo while they were riding a stolen bike, said K Suresh Kumar, DCP (Balanagar zone), Cyberabad. They were linked to three cases in Bachupally and one each in Miyapur, Jagadgirigutta, and KPHB, he added.
Police said that the two, along with another accomplice, P Narsimha, who is absconding, met while drinking at the same spot in Suraram. Facing financial difficulties, they hatched a plan to steal bikes and make quick money.
They began contacting sellers on OLX and escaping with their bikes. In one instance on Jan 23, 2025, in Bachupally, they tricked an MNC employee and fled with his bike, police said.
