Team Blue is celebrating a major sales milestone for their most celebrated product in India, the ever-green YZF-R15. India Yamaha Motor has sold a total of 1 million units of R15 in India, demonstrating the unwavering demand and popularity of this motorcycle in the Asian subcontinent.
Yamaha R15 1 Million Sales Milestone
The 1 millionth unit of Yamaha R15 was produced at the company’s facility in Surajpur. Despite being only 150cc and costing quite a premium, Yamaha R15 has enjoyed consistent sales growth and demand as it emerges as an aspirational vehicle for many 1st time buyers and enthusiasts alike.
This 150cc supersport motorcycle has been a fan favourite and a pivotal model for the company to establish their position and to associate itself with motorsports in India. Under the quarter-litre class, R15 is hailed as the most agile and tech-loaded motorcycle and promises exhilerating performance and supersport handling characteristics.

Yamaha R15 boasts premium componentry including USD telescopic front forks finished in gold shade, rear mono-shock with pre-load adjust, an aluminium swingarm, clip-on handlebars, 282 mm front disc with a dual-piston calliper, 220 mm rear disc, dual channel ABS, 17” alloy wheels, 100/70-17 front tyre, 140/70-17 rear tyre and more.
Yamaha mounts all these components on a Delta Box frame which is renowned for its sporty handling characteristics. Couple this with a committed riding posture, R15 offers sportiness that doesn’t feel out of place on a weekend track day. A potent 155cc single-cylinder engine does duty on this motorcycle, shared with MT-15.
This engine kicks out 18.1 bhp of power at 10,000 RPM and 14.2 Nm of torque at 7,500 RPM. R15 has a sophisticated DOHC 4V/cyl setup along with liquid cooling. Other notable elements include VVA (Variable Valve Actuation), a 6-speed gearbox, a quick shifter (upshifts only) and a TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth and navigation.
