Intermediate student ends life in hostel

Vijayawada: An 18-year-old intermediate student, Gurram Venunath, was found dead in his hostel room at a private college near Kanuru in Krishna district, early on Tuesday.
According to Penamaluru Inspector Venkataramana, Venunath, a native of Guruvindapalli village in Thotlavalluru mandal, allegedly hanged to death from a ceiling fan. The college staff claimed that a love affair and academic pressure were the reasons behind his death, citing a suicide note found near his body. The note allegedly stated that he struggled to focus on his studies after falling in love with a girl.
However, his family strongly refuted these claims asserting that the handwriting was not his and suspected foul play. Venunath failed in mathematics in his second year and was staying at the hostel to focus on his studies. His devastated parents demanded a thorough investigation into his sudden death.
The inspector also said that the student went back to his room and asked his roommate to sleep in another student’s room after having dinner on Monday night. He also spoke to his father at around 11 pm. On Tuesday morning, other students in the hostel were shocked to notice Venunath hanging from the ceiling fan. They broke open the door and informed the college management, who alerted the police.
Police have registered a case of suspicious death and launched an investigation.
