Kolkata: Industrialist Mukesh Ambani on Wednesday pledged to double investments of his business conglomerate, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), in West Bengal by 2030. He made the announcement at the inauguration of the eighth edition of Bengal Global Business Summit, organised by the Mamata Banerjee government.

Mr Ambani said, “In 2016 when I first attended this summit, Reliance’s investment stood below ₹2,000 crores. Today in less than a decade our investment in Bengal have increased 20 times and we are invested over ₹50,000 crores. We shall double this investment by the end of this decade. More importantly, our investment created one lakh direct jobs and sparred significant economic growth in Bengal.”

Showering lavish praise on the chief minister on the dais amid the opposition’s allegations of lack of industrial growth under the Trinamul Congress-rule in the state, the RIL chairman and managing director further informed that an artificial intelligence-ready data center in Kolkata would be operational in nine months as part of his five commitments for development of the state.

Mr Ambani observed, “All of India needs this kind of inclusive and sustainable model of development so that no Indian is left behind and no region in India is left behind.”
