Hyderabad: A day before the accident, both the mother and elder son had warned the family members about the perilous conditions at the cellar excavation site, expressing concerns about its potential collapse.
The family of five, headed by the now deceased Veerayya, worked together as a team, but on Wednesday A Radhamma and elder son A Srinu had shifted to a different site following an offer from another contractor.
“For years, we envisioned building a new house in our village in Khammam, planning to finance it through our savings and a bank loan. We wanted to settle in our ancestral place. Marriage was also on my agenda this year. However, this accident has destroyed everything. The loss of my father and brother seems unreal. Noe my only reason for living is to look after my mother,” Srinu told TOI at Osmania Hospital’s mortuary.
Veeraya’s 18-year-old nephew M Sreenivas, who too died in the accident, had earlier lost his mother and grandmother in 2024. He had been living with Veerayya’s family for a year.
