Vijayawada: To ensure adequate drinking water supply for all during summer season, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has earmarked Rs 10 crore as part of its summer action plan. The civic body is gearing up to implement the summer action plan as soon as the election code for the Graduate MLC elections comes to an end.
Speaking to TOI, VMC CE R Sreenadh Reddy said the Rs 10 crore funds will be utilised from the civic body’s general funds for the transportation of drinking water tankers to tail-end colonies where households experience drinking water shortage. Subsequently, digging of new borewells along with repairing existing borewells and hand pumps will be carried out as part of the summer plan.
Elaborating further, the CE said water kiosks will be opened at requisite locations to provide drinking water to citizens. He added that the civic body will move a file in the ensuing council session for approval to the Rs 10 crore funds for implementing the summer action plan.
It may be noted that Vijayawada city starts to witness maximum day time temperatures akin to summer season beginning from February with many tail-end residential colonies and suburbs like Rajiv Nagar, Payakapuram, Vambay Colony and other colonies in Vijayawada Central constituency experiencing drinking water scarcity.
The CE said that the civic body will take elaborate measures to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to all colonies during March, April, and May.
