Hyderabad: Hyderabad-headquartered Wadi Surgicals, manufacturer of Enliva brand of nitrile gloves which find a use in medical and industrial and other areas, plans to add more manufacturing lines shortly. Each line will see an investment of about Rs 20 crore. This apart, it will look for an acquisition later and also set up a manufacturing unit in North India later, said Shaaz Mehmood, cofFounder, Enliva
It currently has a production facility Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone at Vizag. It now produces one million gloves daily and about 300 million annually. It has invested about Rs 50 cr for its first production line and plans to further expand production capacity.
The global glove market was valued at $16 billion in 2023. It could hit $28 billion by 2030, fueled by rising healthcare needs and expanding industrial applications, he said. India’s glove market currently accounts for approximately 5 per cent of the global market and is poised to reach $1.2 billion by 2028.
This growth is being driven by India’s increasing healthcare infrastructure, rising industrial applications, and heightened hygiene awareness post-pandemic.
India faces challenges including reliance on imported gloves, with around 75-80 per cent of the market being filled by imports. Most of these imports do not meet the quality standards and undermine domestic manufacturers. There are regulatory gaps as well as absence of protective import duties hinder local production capabilities, he said.
Enliva wants to cater to India’s domestic demand and later tap export markets in North Africa, the Middle East, and the UK regions. The production process avoids chlorination and the company is working towards glove recycling initiatives in partnership with local communities to . make footwear,” he said
“We are collaborating with the government to bring surgical and medical examination gloves under the quality control order to check imports of poor-quality products and ensure better standards for those manufactured in the country,” he said.
