Vijayawada: Election Commission of India (ECI) has given the green signal to Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) to continue the process of tenders for proposed works in the capital city. However, EC directed CRDA to finalise the tenders only after the completion of MLC elections.
The model code of conduct (MCC) is in force in the state in view of the elections to three seats in the legislative council from different constituencies. EC set Feb 10 as the last date for filing of papers for the MLC elections, followed by scrutiny of papers on Feb 11. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is Feb 13, polling will be held on Feb 27, and counting of votes would be taken up on Mar 3. The MCC would be in force till March 10 or till completion of the election process.
In view of the model code enforcement, CRDA sought the permission of EC to continue the process of tenders for different works proposed in the capital city, stating that keeping the tender process on hold would delay the works. Considering CRDA’s request, EC has now given the go ahead to complete the tender process. It, however, asked the agency to finalise the bids only after completion of elections.
CRDA has readied plans to take up works worth more than Rs 15,000 crore in the capital city. It recently readied the DPR for the administrative towers and other ongoing works. Construction of a new railing on north side of Krishnayapalem bridge and BT approach to both sides of Krishnayapalem bridge would also be taken up at a cost of Rs 9.8 crore. CRDA has also decided to engage a strategic management consulting firm for promotion of private sector participation in economic development of Amaravati capital city and region, and invited tenders for the same.
