It has been nearly 8 months since former chief minister and Pulivendula MLA Jagan Mohan Reddy entered the Andhra Pradesh assembly. He is showing no interest in coming to the Assembly during the sessions, which is perhaps due to the fact that his party has virtually no strength in the house.
However, when this topic was brought up in front of Jagan during the Media meeting today, he had an interesting comment about the one condition that he has if he is to come to the Assembly.
“The only way I can come to the Assembly is if the government gives me as much time with the mic as Chandrababu. If they treat me like just another MLA, like other 175 MLAs, then there is no point in going there. I need a considerable amount of time to explain myself and also highlight public issues in the assembly, and that is possible only if I am recognised as opposition leader.” Jagan stated.
Well, this makes it clear that the condition set by Jagan to enter the Assembly is that he needs as much importance as chief minister Chandrababu and proportionate mic time.
However, this condition will require Jagan to have an opposition leader status, which is not the case. On this matter, the deputy speaker, Raghu Rama Krishna Raju and IT minister Nara Lokesh have already commented that the people of AP decided not to give Jagan the opposition status and they don’t intend to overrule the mandate.
The implication given by Jagan today is that he will confine himself to speaking in front of the media rather than go to the Assembly when it comes to highlighting public issues. He is citing the reason that he is not given the position status by the government as an excuse to skip the assembly.
