Hyderabad: To meet water requirements of Telangana, the Karnataka govt has agreed to release four tmc ft of Krishna water from Narayanpur Dam to downstream Jurala project in Telangana.
Telangana ministers D Sridhar Babu and Jupalli Krishna Rao, along with some leaders from the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district, met Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Wednesday night. However, the Karnataka govt stated that the water would be released depending on the availability of water in the Narayanpur Dam.
The Telangana govt made the request as the water levels in various irrigation projects on the Krishna in the state, including Srisailam, were low. If the situation continues, the districts on the Krishna bank might face a water crisis during the summer.
Meanwhile, Narayanpur Dam in Karnataka, which is upstream of Jurala, receives water from Almatti Dam, averaging 1 tmcft a day. Even if it releases four tmcft to Jurala, the neighbouring state would not have any problem.
