After examining a mini garbage transfer station on Sambamurthy Road, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner H. M. Dhyanachandra directed officials to set up similar stations at other places in the city to improve sanitation management.
As part of his inspection on Thursday (February 6) the Commissioner visited various areas, including Sambamurthy Road, Dharna Chowk, and Poornananda Pet, to assess the sanitation conditions.
As per sources, officials have been instructed to identify vacant places near garbage vulnerable points in the city for setting up of mini garbage transfer stations, which, with four or five dumper bins on the premises, will be the dumping points.
It is not a rare sight for the public to see dogs and cattle scrounging the piled up garbage and spreading it across the road. Setting up of a mini garbage transfer station at marktets and busy places is expected to provide a solution to the problem. The officials have also been instructed to plan greenery around the garbage transfer station on Sambamurthy Road to curb pollution.
During his visit, the Commissioner also inspected the public toilets and instructed the officials to monitor facilities to ensure cleanliness.
At Poornananda Pet, the Commissioner instructed officials to ensure that roads remain free from encroachments. He directed business owners to operate within their designated areas and ordered the immediate removal of any encroachments causing traffic obstructions.
At Dharna Chowk, the Commissioner visited the Anna Canteen and conducted an on-site inspection. He stressed that the canteens should open on time without any delays and that all allocated food tokens must be distributed to the public efficiently.
Chief Engineer R. Srinath Reddy, Chief City Planner G.V.G.S.V. Prasad, Zonal Commissioner Prabhudas, Superintending Engineer P. Satyakumari, Deputy Director of Horticulture Rammohan, Deputy City Planner Chandra Bose, Executive Engineer Srinivas Reddy, In-charge Executive Engineer (Parks) Chandrasekhar, and other officials took part in the programme.
