Bharatchandra Chary, a class X student of the government school at Kankanalagudem village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, was in for a pleasant surprise early on Thursday morning when Collector M. Hanumantha Rao came visiting to motivate him for the SSC public exam preparation.

Before the break of dawn, the Collector knocked on the door of Bharatchandra’s house at 5.30 a.m. after making a phone call to his family members. His visit to the SSC student’s house marked the launch of a novel programme initiated by the district administration to encourage Class X students, with a thrust on ‘C’ grade students, those lagging behind in studies, to come out with flying colours in the forthcoming SSC exams, official sources said.

The programme was launched in 86 villages across the district on Thursday. A host of district officials and teachers actively involved in the novel campaign covered around 800 SSC students, especially those identified under ‘C’ grade all over the district. After an overnight stay at the Social Welfare Hostel in Narayanapur, the Collector visited the house of Bharatchandra. The Collector exhorted him to stay focused on studies and prepare well for the upcoming SSC exams with confidence. He also donated ₹5,000, a chair and writing pad to the student.

Flanked by his mother Vijayalakshmi, a visibly elated Bharatchandra thanked the Collector for visiting their house and boosting his confidence. He told the Collector that his ambition is to become a police officer and vowed to put in consistent efforts to achieve his goal.
