Hyderabad: City doctors marked a medical achievement by successfully performing Telangana’s first complete penis reconstruction surgery on a 19-year-old Somalian patient on Thursday. The patient, who lost his penis at age four due to post-circumcision complications, underwent a complex 10-hour microvascular surgery.
The procedure involved reconstructing the organ using a radial artery forearm flap, enabling normal urination and sexual function.
The surgical team, led by a senior urologist and plastic surgeon, employed advanced microsurgical techniques to restore both functionality and sensation. Following the successful reconstruction, the patient also received a penile implant.
“For years, I lived in emotional distress, feeling incomplete. Today, I have regained my identity, confidence, and a chance to lead a normal life,” said the patient, who previously sought treatment in multiple countries without success.
A team of experts, including senior consultant urologist and andrologist Dr AV Ravikumar and consultant plastic surgeon Dr Dasari Madhu Vinay Kumar, executed the highly complex reconstructive procedure at Medicover Hospitals.
